Improving Child and Family Welfare: A Summary and Reconsideration of 11 Recent national Welfare Grants...
This paper examines 11 demonstration projects in light of the prevention, empowerment, and social linkage goals of National Welfare Grants' funding program. Five of the projects deal with child sexual abuse, either in terms of effective response or treatment approaches. Three consider child welfare issues related to indirect or secondary abuse: children who witness violence and children who are taken into alternative care. The final trio of projects test family support models which promote parental social networks or pro-family neighbourhood structures. The content and findings of each project are summarized along with a discussion of the broad implications for policy makers in the social service field. 1994, 31 p.
